What is Opera?

Opera defined by a dictionary is "a theatrical presentation in which a dramatic performance is set to music" or another meaning "a drama set to music; consists of singing with orchestral accompaniment and an orchestral overture and interludes"

Opera to me means a great piece of music set to a wonderful story, it is sung by some great singers who are accompanied by a great orchestra, all conducted by a great conductor performances of Opera are usually shown in Opera Houses and theaters, where the singers are normally dressed in a costume from the period set by the story. The singers tell the story by singing and acting on stage while accompanied by the orchestra and conductor.

In the 18th and 19th centuries Operas were usually seen by Kings, Queens and rich people. However, nowadays they can be seen and listened to by the general public. If you can't afford the theatre or Opera house, they can be viewed on DVD and Video or listened too on CD.
